The IELTS Writing test consists of two tasks centered on topics of general interest, and both questions are mandatory.
IELTS Academic Writing – This section includes topics relevant for students entering undergraduate and postgraduate programs or pursuing professional registration
• Task 1: Test takers are required to describe, summarize, or explain diagrams, tables, charts, or graphs in 150 words within approximately twenty minutes.
• Task 2: Test takers must respond to an academic topic in a semi-formal or neutral style, writing 250 words in about forty minutes
IELTS General Writing – This section also includes two tasks, focusing on general interest topics.
• Task 1: Test takers respond to a situation by writing a letter of at least 150 words within no more than twenty minutes
• Task 2: Test takers write a neutral or semi-formal essay addressing a problem, argument, or perspective in 250 words in around forty minutes
• Number of questions: 2.
• Total time: 60 minutes
